In 2016, JoFoKe began speaking publicly about her lifelong battle with mental illness.ย A suicide attempt survivor, she shares some of her story while on stage, saying that every time she lifts her voice, she is “singing for my life!” She also tells audiences that “it’s okay to admit that you’re not okay, that you need help, and to seek to get that help…” Amazingly, something the team never expected happened. Supporters started reaching out to JoFoKe, asking for help connecting to therapy. Majority were Black people looking for Black therapists.
JoFoKe and her sister, Stacie Potts jumped into action, using personal connections to assist those who reached out. They called it โCount Joy Networkโ, the namesake of JoFoKe’s journal entry turned song, Count, that sparked this chain of events. Count has become an anthem for JoFoKe supporters and CJN increasingly works to raise awareness about mental health issues, family support, and connection to access to culturally relevant counseling. JoFoKe, Stacie and CJN are committed to connecting fighters to resources they need to live, love, and fight for their lives.
